Washington Press Association

Washington Press Association provides members the opportunity to expand their professional skills through leadership, education, advancement, recognition, and networking. WPA is a diverse organization of professional communicators that is open to women and men. Members work for newspapers, magazines, colleges, government, corporations, non-profit agencies, communications businesses, a variety of organizations and associations, and are self-employed.

Founded in 1946, WPA is affiliated with the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW). Both organizations promote the highest ethical standards, foster exchanges of journalistic ideas and experiences, offer continuing educational opportunities, and serve the public's right-to-know.

WPA offers a nurturing atmosphere for career enhancement through networking with other members in similar positions. Our annual state wide Communications Contest recognizes member's professional work with first place winners in this competition going on to NFPW's nation-wide Communications Contest. Career and community accomplishments are acknowledged through the Communicator of Achievement Award, at both the state and national level.
